Stars are Aligning for Cleveland's comeback
Well, the book is almost complete, what will the last chapter entail for Cleveland as they seek to cap it off with a 5A state title? Leah Futey and the Storm both looking to return to the top of the mountain that has seen the past years close but just not enough against the competitive landscape that is class 5A. Perhaps the emergence of teammate Eliana Rivera who finished in 25th last state meet has been the sparkplug to get the Storm back into championship contender form. They have gotten the better of their district 1-5A rivals in defending champion Volcano Vista and cross-town rivals of Rio Rancho multiple times this season. This is the big bonanza of races that will require every team to give their all if they want to land on the podium. The Rams have remained in striking distance and having seen the surprises the hawks can pull off they never truly out of a race. Also lurking around is Eldorado that rarely misses out on a top-three finish multiple years in a row. The marque matchup of the day will be Leah Futey going up against defending champion Ellary Battle of Alamogordo. Certainly not to be overlooked, Albuquerque high's Daniella Figueroa is last year's runner-up and has been on Futey's heels all year long. Also, Ariana Thiel-Hadjilambrinos, Ellie Suo-Anttila, and Nicole Pierce look out for in the top 5. We aren't sure what will end up happening in the 5A girls race but we are excited to find out!
