Top NM Boys Runners to Watch at XC State Championships


The 2022 Western Sky Community Care State Cross Country Championships are set for Saturday, November 5 hosted by Albuquerque Academy. Champions from classes A/2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A will be crowned and you can capture all the action live on MileSplit with on-site live streaming for all the races, race day photo albums, post-race interviews, and live results. A/2A Boys

We can expect plenty of new faces to fill out the top ten this year for A/2A boys as three returning all-state performers look to battle it out for a state title. Hagerman's Gerardo Mendoza comes off a 3rd place finish in 2021 just ahead of Maxwell's Tristan Pierce that has collected his share of state titles on the track. Laguna Acoma's Lucas Williams has ran the top time in the classifcation this year and will seek to challenge both Mendoza and Pierce.

The 3rd place finisher from the 2021 state meet returns as one of two boys in A/2A to go under 17:00 in the 5k. Won the A/2A race at the 2022 Academy Extravaganza. 


Tristan Pierce

Maxwell
4th overall finisher in the 2021 state meet and finished second behind Mendoza at the A/2A race at Academy Extravaganza. 


Jude Martinez

Penasco
The 9th overall finisher at the 2021 state meet and 3rd place finisher at Academy Extravaganza. 


Lucas Williams

Laguna Acoma
Has run a personal best of 16:53 to hold the top A/2A boys' time this year, and finished 4th in the varsity race at Rio Rancho Jamboree. 21st overall finisher in last year's state meet.


Elijah Lujan

Pecos
Set a personal best of 17:39 last year to place 6th overall at the state meet, and also finished 6th at this year's Academy Extravaganza. 


Joshua Marquez

Oak Grove 
11th overall finisher in the 2021 state meet, finished 7th at this year's Academy Extravaganza. 


Tobias Fernandez

Oak Grove
A 13th place finisher from the 2021 state meet as well as the 13th place finisher at Academy Extravaganza. 


Tagoya Pedro

Laguna Acoma
Finished in 15th place in the 2021 state meet, was 11th place finisher at Academy Extravaganza. 


Isaiah Reval

Dulce
The 17th overall finisher in the 2021 state meet, ran a personal best of 17:34 at Bronco Ridge Runner to finish 6th. 


Gentry Arthur

Navajo Pine

The 33rd overall finisher in the 2021 state meet, landed a 4th place finish and a new personal best of 17:37 at Academy Extravaganza.
