Hilltoppers remain on Top heading into 4A state championships
Los Alamos should we ever really doubt them at this point? The team seeking their fourth straight with yet another new group remains on paper the best team in the state. Emma Montoya leads the way having hit a huge personal best of 18:33 this season. From what we've seen of the Hilltoppers is that they are in championship shape and although have seemingly been absent at all the marquee meets this year are still the team to beat in 4A. ABQ Academy enters this season with seemingly more energy to a team led by Katie Patton and having found their own ample supply of success this year. So where do the questions really linger going into this race, well perhaps whether Shiprock is already locked in for a podium finish or if teams like Kirtland Central and Pojoaque Valley will enter the mix? A showdown to look forward to will be a season-long #1 in 4A, Emma Montoya going up against Katie Patton one last time for all the marbles. Also, we can expect a little bit of Christmas this weekend as the red and green jerseys of the Chargers and Hilltoppers will be plentiful as the top ten come through the finish line. Hailey Mcdowell, Anna Hastings, and Trista Cordova are just a handful of potential top-five finishers along with Kaydence Platero and Lorianna Piestewa. Lock in tight for what should be a great 4A state championship race.
