New Mexico Girls Cross Country Countdown: #7 St.Pius

The New Mexico Cross Country Countdown breaks down the top 25 New Mexico boys and girls teams returning this fall. These rankings will include projected top runners and weighing how each team may do in their respective districts and state competitions. Changes to class alignments and adaptions to the state championship format have been taken into consideration. These rankings are based on past two seasons of performances and do not include teams that did not compete last year due to a lack of athletes and team information. All top returning runners are only projections and may include athletes no longer on the team due to transfer or out-of-state relocation.

#7 St. Pius Sartans

Another team with the potential to knock off those at the top of 4A includes St.Pius with a team that hasn't hit its ceiling just yet. This is a squad similar to La Cueva in the fact that the next two years can be just as good if not better for the Sartans if they can continue to excel. Trista Cordova (9th) comes off an All-State performance to lead a team that will experience some challenges as they depart two from 2021. Maricia Marquez (17th) and Gracie Baca (20th) are the remaining state runners from this past spring as they will likely add Grace Aragon and Layla Montoya to the mix this fall. as competitive as 4A tends to be any given year it is difficult to lose any pieces to a roster that led St.Pius to a 3rd place finish that was well ahead of Aztec and Shiprock but still too great to compete with ABQ Academy and Los Alamos. They do include a solid trio that all have the potential for top 15 finishes, if they can find room to close the gap between runners 4 -5 they will be well on their way to capturing yet another trophy in 2021.
