New Mexico Cross Country Countdown Series

The New Mexico Cross Country Countdown breaks down the top 25 New Mexico boys and girls teams returning this fall. These rankings will include projected top runners and weighing how each team may do in their respective districts and state competitions. Changes to class alignments and adaptions to the state championship format have been taken into consideration. These rankings are based on past two seasons of performances and do not include teams that did not compete last year due to a lack of athletes and team information. All top returning runners are only projections and may include athletes no longer on the team due to transfer or out-of-state relocation.

#9 Eldorado Eagles

Will this be the year that Eldorado finally lets off the pedal after coming up just short of three straight 5A State titles. No other team has been as dominant as the Eagles in New Mexico 5A classification. While Laurynn Sisneros is off to West Point, they will rely on sophomore Rory Claussen even more after her 6th place performance in March. Juniors Ellie Suo-Anttila (17th), and Meagan Harenberg (25th) are the returners from Eldorado's 2020 state team. We would like to see Allison Maethner return to varsity after a 40th place performance in 2019 and likely new addition with senior Paige Ferando getting the call up as well. At the moment it's looking unlikely for the Eagles to remain a podium team with all the other schools appearing to be bringing back just a little more talent and experience. History has shown that Eldorado will not easily part ways with being the top of class 5A. Expect yet another resilient Eagles squad to once again challenge for a blue trophy in fall 2021.
