New Mexico Cross Country Countdown Series

The New Mexico Cross Country Countdown breaks down the top 25 New Mexico boys and girls teams returning this fall. These rankings will include projected top runners and weighing how each team may do in their respective districts and state competitions. Changes to class alignments and adaptions to the state championship format have been taken into consideration. These rankings are based on past two seasons of performances and do not include teams that did not compete last year due to a lack of athletes and team information. All top returning runners are only projections and may include athletes no longer on the team due to transfer or out-of-state relocation.

#13 New Mexico Military Institute

A team that will try to maintain the success from this past spring just like their boys' squad, NMMI returns the majority of their runners to a tall task ahead. As stellar as they were in the 2020-2021 season is undeniable that Cottonwood Classical Prep was just on another level entirely. They have departed Taylor Sanchez who finished 19th at the 3A state meet but return their scoring four. Tessa Walker will lead NMMI coming off a 6th place performance while fellow senior Christina Robertson is behind her in 13th. Autumn Weaver (13th) and Mary Olvera (17th) round out the returning scorers for NMMI. This season will be attempting to continue the success from last season and really try to fend off any advancements from schools like Bosque and St. Michaels. To be state champions it will take at least two more all-state performers and even then it will not be a guarantee the current #1's of 3A.
