New Mexico Girls Cross Country Countdown: #17 Hobbs

The New Mexico Cross Country Countdown breaks down the top 25 New Mexico boys and girls teams returning this fall. These rankings will include projected top runners and weighing how each team may do in their respective districts and state competitions. Changes to class alignments and adaptions to the state championship format have been taken into consideration. These rankings are based on past two seasons of performances and do not include teams that did not compete last year due to a lack of athletes and team information. All top returning runners are only projections and may include athletes no longer on the team due to transfer or out-of-state relocation.

#17 Hobbs Eagles

Just like their boys' squad, the Hobbs Eagles land the #17 spot on our girls' cross country countdown for possessing similar talent across the board. Led by junior Yisel Palacios who finished as an all-state performer landing the 10th place spot among 5A. The Eagles will rely on senior Celeste Oaxaca (55th) and sophomore Janelle Ferrer (57th)as the only other returners from the spring cross country roster. Hobbs has been a consistent state contender and has traded off dominance for district 4-5A with Clovis for the past few seasons. They have a true low stick with Palacios but they will be needing to replace at least three more reliable runners if they want to capture yet another district title and further their position among a fierce 5A girls class.
