New Mexico Boys Cross Country Countdown: #18 Quemado

The New Mexico Cross Country Countdown breaks down the top 25 New Mexico boys and girls teams returning this fall. These rankings will include projected top runners and weighing how each team may do in their respective districts and state competitions. Changes to class alignments and adaptions to the state championship format have been taken into consideration. These rankings are based on past two seasons of performances and do not include teams that did not compete last year due to a lack of athletes and team information. All top returning runners are only projections and may include athletes no longer on the team due to transfer or out-of-state relocation.

#18 Quemado Eagles

The moment appears to be the perfect moment for Quemado to seize its first state title in the program in history. Coming off a stellar runner-up performance led by now senior Noah Bugayong who capped off a 3rd place finish. It will be no easy task this fall despite returning three of the four-state runners from this spring including a pair of freshmen with Mason Taylor (20th) and Jack George (25th). Although not official we project that runners from the 2019 roster like Cable Angelus will remerge on the team after competing in track this spring. Angelus brings in some of that state championship experience as a 62nd place finisher from 2019 which the Eagles will crucially need if they want to fend off other schools rising up the ladder in A/2A. Although schools like Cloudcroft and Cimarron appear like they will be taking a step back due to graduations they shouldn't be overlooked for a classification that can pull off surprises in an abundance.
