New Mexico Boys Cross Country Countdown: #19 Crownpoint

The New Mexico Cross Country Countdown breaks down the top 25 New Mexico boys and girls teams returning this fall. These rankings will include projected top runners and weighing how each team may do in their respective districts and state competitions. Changes to class alignments and adaptions to the state championship format have been taken into consideration. These rankings are based on past two seasons of performances and do not include teams that did not compete last year due to a lack of athletes and team information. All top returning runners are only projections and may include athletes no longer on the team due to transfer or out-of-state relocation.

#19 Crownpoint Eagles

For a team that did not qualify a team to the state meet this spring, Crownpoint enters this season as an immediate contender for a podium finish. Led by junior Tylon Tsosie who finished 7th among 3A and followed by a pair of seniors with Kordell McMillan and LaDainian Willie, this front three is one of the best from any school returning in New Mexico. They will rely on sophomores Nishane Lee and Mathew Belone to help keep them within trophy contention as district 1-3A will likely be at full force compared to this past spring. They will have to challenge Tohatchi for districts and find themselves taking on schools like NMMI and defending champions Cottonwood Classical. This will be a team to watch out for as although they were absent from state championships during a shortened spring season they are fully capable of being a contender among 3A boys in fall of 2021.
