#25 Tohatchi Cougars
Tohatchi is coming off a spring cross country season that included only one runner with past state championship experience with Brook Badonie. A pair of 8th graders came through big for Tohatchi with WynterRose Sheka coming through for an 8th place finish in March. looking at where Tohatchi placed among 3A may not necessarily be a great indicator of what they are capable of this season. They can expect more competition from district 1-3A this year as well from schools that were not competing this past season. The Cougars will benefit from returning all of their state runners and of the experience for WynterRose including a 5th place finish in the 1600m in a late June track season. 3A is a mystery as is a good portion of the state of New Mexico, we do know that some of those teams that got the best of Tohatchi have since graduated multiple athletes from the class of 2021. The key for them will be finding a crucial 5th runner that can complement a young and upcoming squad like themselves.
