Getting To Know New Mexico Athletes
When did you first start competing in track and field, and do you recall any of your childhood competitions?
I first started in seventh grade, although almost every year in elementary school I competed in an "elementary mile" race.
Was there a certain moment when you realized you'd be able to compete at such a high level?
It wasn't a moment. I wanted to, so I did what I could to get where I am.
What are some bumps in the road that you've encountered when it comes to training for different events during the season?
It's rough to balance school, sleep, social life, and track.
How did COVID impact your training as you prepared for the season?
It impacted xc a lot by forcing us to run alone or with just a few people, but it hasn't impacted much this track season.
If you had to pick: Track and Field or Cross Country, and why?
Track and Field, because I love the races and training more. It feels more real. It's a close call though, I really love xc as well.
How is the college recruiting process going, and what schools are you looking at?
I use NCSA which makes it a little easier to find good schools for running. I'm looking at west coast schools largely.
Where are you going to college? If you have already committed, what made you choose them?
I don't know yet
Is there another track event you wish you were good at? What is appealing about it?
I wish I was good at high jump...they're so graceful and elegant
What are some hobbies and interests you have outside of running?
Writing, reading, skiing
Who is your role model, and why?
My mother, because she's both an amazing, strong runner and an amazing, strong person.
Everyone has a bucket list, so give us some of the things on your list!
Seeing the northern lights, traveling all over
What is the best advice you have received?
This running mantra - "I think I can, I know I can, I will I will I will"
What is your favorite pre-race snack, tradition, etc.?
Watermelon and our team cheer in xc
If you could do a sport other than XC/Track, what sport would it be, and why?
I already do this sport, but ski racing
