In 2019 Luke Wysong was a 7th place finisher in the long jump at the 5A State Championship. Fast forward to 2021, he is a contender in the 100m,200m, 400m, and long jump as he has proven to be likely the most versatile sprinter in New Mexico. today we get to know more about Luke in our Getting To Know New Mexico Athletes Series.
When did you first start competing in track and field, and do you recall any of your childhood competitions?
Was there a certain moment when you realized you'd be able to compete at such a high level?
Freshman year on varsity
What are some bumps in the road that you've encountered when it comes to training for different events during the season?
I've had a few bumps with hamstrings
How did COVID impact your training as you prepared for the season?
We didn't have as many weeks to get into shape and the masks restrict breathing
What is your favorite track venue that you have competed at?
How is the college recruiting process going, and what schools are you looking at?
I'm going to UNM for football

My father because he pushed me to be the best and always expects my best effort

What is the best advice you have received?
My parents telling me to do me and always have confidence in what I can do
What is your favorite pre-race snack, tradition, etc.?
I always run the laces of my spikes through my other laces when I tie them
