Racing, racing, everywhere

The third “weekend" of the New Mexico Outdoor Track season actually spans six days. And in those six days, if teams are unable to find a meet, they are not trying hard enough. With meets starting yesterday, we'll take a look at where the action will be happening over that time frame.

THURSDAY

Things kicked off yesterday when a few teams headed to the Estancia Quad in Estancia. If the NMAA Approved Meet list is correct, this was quite competitive as the Bears hosted East Mountain, ATC and Bosque Schools. Meet results were not available at Press Time.

Further north was the Pojoaque Valley Invite. The Elks and Elkettes hosted teams from the 4A-6A Classifications. Results have been received and will be posted later today.

FRIDAY

Starting Friday and continuing Saturday, a few teams will take some of their brightest stars down to the Valley of the Sun for the 75th Chandler Rotary Invite in Chandler, Az. Best of luck to those making the trip as the races will surely prove to be fast and competitive.

Back in New Mexico, Bloomfield High School will host the Bloomfield Quad in Bloomfield. The host Bobcats will welcome Kirtland Central, Crownpoint and Shiprock Northwest.

In the southeast corner, many 1A-3A schools will converge at Dexter High School for the Dexter Demon Invite. If you are curious how the 3A Boys team competition looks, this would be one of the meets to attend.

Back up in San Juan County, Farmington High School takes its second turn with hosting duties with the Farmington Invite. Minus a few teams, the line-up is basically identical to the line-ups for the FHS Early Bird and PV Invite, meaning the races should be fast, especially with Sarah Root (pictured above by Holly Patterson) leading her Aztec Tiger teammates.

Returning to the southeast corner, the Lovington High School hosts the Lovington Wildcat Relays. With the teams slated to participate, this one should see some fast times.

Heading back into Chaves County brings us to the RC Invite in Roswell. It appears as though a few northern teams will be making the trip down which will add to the competitive atmosphere of this meet.

Jumping across the state to McKinley County is the Zuni Delakwayi Quad in Zuni. The Thunderbirds welcome Rehoboth Christian, Wingate and Monument Valley (AZ) High School.

SATURDAY

There are seven meets scheduled and we'll start down in Alamogordo with the Rolla Buck White Sands Invite. It is Alamogordo's turn to host southern New Mexico as the Tigers welcome most of Las Cruces as well as a few others for what looks to be a competitive affair.

In the Albuquerque Metro the APS Robertson Invite is taking place at two different locations. Comprised of primarily APS Schools, half will compete at Milne Stadium while the other half at Wilson Stadium. Nick Slade (pictured above by Blake Wood) and his Albuquerque Academy Charger teammates will be competing at Wilson Stadium.

Heading north to Dulce is the Hawk/Lobo Meet jointly hosted by Dulce and Escalante High Schools. Largely drawing from schools around Rio Arriba County, this could give a bit a preview to a few District battles.

Down in T or C the Mike Tooley Relays will be hosted by Hot Springs High School. The Relays look to draw from many of the schools in the southwestern corner of the state.

In Moriarty the Pintos host the Moriarty Quad. A small meet with some home cooking should do suit the Pintos just fine.

Over in Tucumcari the Rattlers host their home meet in the form of the Rattler Relays. This is the other meet that will shed some light on the 3A Boys team competition.

MONDAY

Taking a Sunday break, the racing continues with the Tiger Quad hosted by Capitan High School. Most of the teams participating will be doing so on a few days rest, good luck.

TUESDAY

The final meet of the “weekend" takes place on the eastern edges of the state at the Texico Invite. This is the third meet in what could shed light on where the 3A Boys team competition stands at mid-season.

And that's it, one long “weekend" of racing, all over the Land of Enchantment. Find a race and enjoy watching some competition.
