Duke City All-Comers to Open NM Indoor Season Saturday Night

Indoor track at the high school level is an idea that is still catching on in New Mexico with but one indoor track and field facility in the entire state, but the trend does seem favorable at one of the best indoor venues anywhere.

This year's indoor season starts out Saturday night at 6 PM at the Albququerque Convention Center. Online registration for the meet closes tonight at midnight, so be sure to get your entry done now if you've been putting things off. Late entry runs from 5 - 5:45 PM on Saturday with an extra fee attached.

As expected, the meet will bring together several athletes from New Mexico, a few from Texas, and a surprisingly large contingent from Colorado--chiefly from the Durango area.

This early in the season, it's sometimes difficult to project where the best match-ups will fall, but one potentially very nice match-up figures to take place in the girls 1600. There, Durango's Shannon Maloney is slated to take on Santa Teresa's Regina Marquez. Throw in a couple more like Amanda Mercer of Los Alamos and this one could get very competitive. The boys 1600 is similarly intriguing with the prospect of El Paso's Brian Barraza taking on Durango's Joe Maloney.

Events to be contested on Saturday evening include:

60m dash
200m dash
400m dash
60m hurdles
800m run
1600m run
long jump
triple jump
shot put
high jump
pole vault
4x400m

Results will be posted on this site as soon as they become available.
