RIO RANCHO, NEW MEXICO- It's time to highlight the top marks for the 2025 New Mexico outdoor track & field season, and shout out all the male athletes who sit alone at the mountain top.
Organ Mountain's Corbin Coombs dominated the distance events, and had the top marks in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. I guess that's why he was named New Mexico Gatorade Player of the Year.
Another thing to note is the elite speed that resides in Santa Fe high school. Sprinter Bryce Melton took the top marks in the 100m & 200m while sprinter Valin Wittenburg took the 400m. The Santa Fe Demons also swept three of the relay events.
La Cueva had a pair of athletes setting historic marks: Tanner Montano tied the state record in the long jump with a 24 ft. 10 in. mark, and Grant Vlaun set the 5A state record in pole vault with a mark of 16 ft. 6 in. Montano will compete for the Texas Longhorns next season while Vlaun is competing at Baylor this season.
