Rio Rancho, New Mexico- Before the 2025 outdoor track and field season kicks off in New Mexico, we wanted to highlight a couple of athletes each week to build on the already strong community that we have, here in the Land of Enchantment.
Second in our new series is Eldorado high school's Jahari Morehead, a junior who is as explosive and smooth as they come. Here are the questions we asked him...
Q: What events do you compete in?
A: 100m, 200m, 400m, long jump, 4x1 relay, 4x2 relay, and 4x4 relay.
Q: What got you involved in track & field?
A: I was the fastest kid around school so thought I should do it for another sport [Morehead plays football for Eldorado].
Q: Any favorite memories during your high school career?
A: Going up to Farmington high school for a district meet my freshman year, and the "Eldo" boys winning district.
Q: Do you have a ritual or routine before you compete?
A: Stay focused, and having fun, because I compete the best when I'm having fun and in a good mood.
Q: What are some of your goals for this upcoming season?
A: Run a sub-10.6 100m time, run a sub-22 in 200m, and run a sub-48 400m.
Q: What is a necessity for you at a meet? AirPods, a certain snack, anything like that?
A: Goldfish is a must, and AirPods to listen to TikTok before my next event.
Q: What are some of your go-to songs to get you in the right head space for a meet?
A: "The way life goes" by Lil Uzi Vert, "Erase your socials" by Lil Uzi Vert, "Through the storm" by YoungBoy, and "Make no sense" by YoungBoy
Q: Besides track & field, what are some things you enjoy?
A: I love to play football and competing in powerlifting. Also, I love to chill in my room.
Q: After a meet, how do you celebrate? Sleep, go to your favorite restaurant, what do you do?
A: Go get something to eat with the boys. Then, go home and get some rest.
Q: What can people expect from your team this season?
A: A lot of new faces that are gonna surprise people, and a ton of winning from boys and girls teams.
