The New Mexico Cross Country Countdown breaks down the top 25 boys and girls teams returning this fall. These rankings will include projected top runners and weighing how each team may do in their respective districts and state competitions. Changes to class alignments and adaptions to state championship format have been taken into consideration.

#22 Clovis Wildcats

The Wildcats have been on an upward trend in cross country for the past few seasons. Not a traditional powerhouse and perhaps the sport of choice in southern New Mexico will always be football, but teams like Clovis are proving to be a challenge going forward. The best runner from 5A is Jerrick Maldonado who leads a team still looking for team success. Maldonado took it down to the wire last season when he almost captured the 5A title from Piedra Vista's Triston Charles.
