A meet scheduled for March is never a sure thing, as the folks in Socorro found out on Thursday.
But, it is true that the weather forecast is looking up for the weekend. And, there is a full slate of meets to enjoy in the Land of Enchantment today and tomorrow.
The Artesia Bulldog relays rolls off the starting line today. It should be a great opportunity for the southeastern schools to measure where they are at this early point in the season.
In Albuquerque, the APS schools contest their kickoff meets at Milne and Wilson Stadiums. A lot of rust figures to get shaken off at these meets.
Just up the road a short piece, the Cleveland Storm hosts their invitational on Saturday. It looks to be bringing in a solid roster of schools, and MileSplit New Mexico plans to be on-site for coverage of this one. As always, the Cleveland distance group figures to be among the main attractions, but it's clear from last week's results in Los Lunas that Cleveland doesn't have many weak event areas.
Still not enough for you close-in to Albuquerque? Well, then, check out the Jim Burke Invitational in Belen.
Up in the northwest corner of the state, Piedra Vista gets things started this weekend with their invitational. Look for nearly every school from the northwest corner of the state, plus a handful from southwestern Colorado, at attendance at this one. This meet could easily figure as one of the big deal meets of the weekend and the Saturday forecast for Farmington is looking very nice at the moment.
And, finally, Carlsbad hosts the Ralph Bower Relays on Saturday as well.
If you have results available, please send them to MileSplit New Mexico at the e-mail address in the lower left corner of this page. We will got those results up and make them easily accessible.
