Several New Mexico high school track and field athletes recorded personal bests at meets held March 23-29.
BOYS
Owen Smith (East Mountain) ran 2:06.84 in the 800 meters at the Artesia Invitational on March 28, dropping nearly nine seconds from his previous PR of 2:15.91. The sophomore finished 6th of 29 competitors and ranks #112 in the state and #13 among sophomores.
Isaac Romero (ABQ Academy) threw 147-10 in the discus at the Bernalillo Relays on March 26, improving from his previous best of 133-2 set in March 2026. The senior placed 3rd of 30 competitors and ranks #12 in New Mexico and #5 among seniors. Romero also set a personal best in the shot put at the same meet, throwing 42-11 to improve from 38-5.
Ryu Medina (Mayfield) ran 10:02.87 in the 3200 meters at the OMHS David Nunez Invitational on March 28, breaking his previous PR of 10:24.31 from February 2026. The junior's time set a Mayfield High School record and earned him 2nd place of 18 competitors, ranking #37 in the state and #7 among juniors.
Dante Krakow (Piedra Vista) won the 1600 meters in 4:27.89 at the Farmington Invitational on March 28, improving from his previous best of 4:38.27 set in March 2026. The sophomore finished 1st of 18 competitors and ranks #21 in New Mexico and #1 among sophomores in the event.
Jalen Sealy (Rio Rancho) cleared 6-4 in the high jump at the Bernalillo Relays on March 26, adding two inches to his previous PR of 6-2 from March 2026. The sophomore won the event with 16 competitors and ranks #9 in the state and #1 among sophomores.
GIRLS
Audree Mackey (Hobbs) cleared 5-4 in the high jump at the TR1BE Relays on March 26, improving from her previous best of 4-10. The mark sets a school record for Hobbs High School and ranks #3 in New Mexico and #1 among freshmen statewide. Mackey placed third among 23 competitors.
Esther Gellis (Los Alamos) ran 12:40.84 in the 3200 meters at the Bernalillo Relays on March 26, dropping from her previous personal record of 13:19.81 set in February. The junior's time ranks #61 in the state and #11 among juniors. Gellis finished third in a field of three runners.
Angela Gonzales (Silver) posted 5:34.02 in the 1600 meters at the OMHS David Nunez Invitational on March 28, bettering her previous mark of 5:48.01 from March. The sophomore's time establishes a Silver High School record and ranks #39 statewide and #8 among sophomores. Gonzales won the event in a field of 23 competitors.
Lena Coombs (Organ Mountain) clocked 2:25.25 in the 800 meters at the OMHS David Nunez Invitational on March 28, improving from her previous best of 2:29.57 set in March. The time ranks #29 in New Mexico, and Coombs won the race among 28 competitors.
Emily Russell (Moriarty) ran 13.30 in the 100 meters at the Zimmerly Relays on March 27, dropping from her previous personal record of 13.48. The senior's time ranks #125 statewide and #29 among seniors, and she placed fourth in a field of 31 runners.
