New Mexico Cross Country Countdown Series
#3 Eldorado Eagles
Last year was a slight regression on Eldorado's part that rarely has happened in the past twenty years. The Eagles are seemingly always a lock for a podium spot at the state meet and in 2022 the expectations will be just as high. The Eagles return with Ellie Suo-Anttila at the helm coming off a 7th place finish in the state meet. The talk of this entire series has been how teams can return enough production from last year's team to hopefully make an impact on this season and Eldorado is that team to return six state runners giving them a good base to work with in fall. Back for the Eagles includes Isadora Miller (15th in 2021), Rory Claussen (16th in 2021), Meagan Harenberg (28th in 2021), Rayen Martinez (37th in 2021), and Isabella Allred (44th in 2021). That is a stellar group to bring back and surely worthy of not only a podium spot but serious contention for another 5A state title. They look strong enough to hold on to district 2-5A this season but they will need to find a path toward overcoming defending state champions Volcano Vista that also brings back a great team. We can expect a very close finish at the state meet in November, the team that is left holding up the blue trophy will have truly put in a phenomenal performance.
