New Mexico Cross Country Countdown Series
#5 Los Alamos Hilltoppers
2021 was a cumulation of time put in by senior leadership that had waited years for their chance to represent Los Alamos in a state championship and the class of 2022 did not disappoint as the Hilltoppers secured four senior boys in the top ten for All-State honors and a 24 point victory. Now they will look to a new cast to once again return Los Alamos to state title contention as they rely on the pair of returners in Beck Ellis (10th in 2021), and Eddie Gartz (15th in 2021). Others that could be expected to fill out the varsity spots include Jack Ammerman, Armando Inbody, Duane Sena, Michael Bane, and Cyril Jaworski. With practically an entirely new bunch to take over, the Hilltoppers will take a step back from the dominance they had a year ago and closer to the rest of 4A including rival ABQ Academy. The Chargers will benefit from familiar faces returning with state experience as they emerge as the possible early season favorite in 4A. Los Alamos has been known for reloading varsity squads and maintaining or even elevating their success from year to year and 2022 will be no different as they remain on top of the hill in class 4A for the time being.
