On the heels of this past weekend's 3200m winning performance at the Chandler Rotary Invitational, Natasha Bernal finds herself in rarefied air. Bernal's winning performance of 10:48.16 replaced teammate Mackenzie Everett's La Cueva school record of 11:07, and now stands as the #6 all time 3200m performance at the prestigious Chandler Rotary Invitational. Additionally, Bernal's time is less than two seconds off the state record of 10:46.72, set by Gallup's Felicia Guliford in 2001.
Bernal is now in the midst of her second track season after converting from a full time soccer specialist, and just completed an undefeated XC season that culminated with both an individual and team win at the 2014 NMAA XC State Championships. Earlier this winter, Bernal also won the Great Southwest Indoor Championship in the 3200m with a winning time of 11:19. Bernal sat down with NM Milesplit to discuss her rise to prominence, her remaining high school goals, and her favorite running gear.
