VOTE: MileSplit NM Performers of the Week (3/2-3/8)

Rio Rancho, New Mexico- It's time for our first voting for MileSplit NM Performer of the Week honors. Here are eight New Mexico athletes up for the weekly honor. Voting will conclude Thursday morning with the winner announced Thursday morning. Congratulations to all the nominees.

MileSplit NM Male Performer of the Week

-Mayfield's Xavier Ochoa (senior): At the Tiger Invitational, Ochoa took first place in the 300m hurdles and the triple jump. He also took second in the 110m hurdles.

-Centennial's Luke Matherly (junior): At the Mike Castillo Track Meet, Matherly took first in both the discus and shot put. He threw a 47 foot, nine inch in the shot, and a 168-foot sling in the discus. 

-Organ Mountain's Daxton Coombs (sophomore): At the Mike Castillo Track Meet, Coombs came in first place in the 1600m and 3200m, racking up a ton of points for the Knights.

-Farmington's Cash Garrett (senior): At the Farmington Early Bird Invite, Garrett came in first place in the pole vault and the 300m hurdles. A true master of track and field. 

-ABQ Academy's Nicholas Ponte (senior): At the AA-LA Co-Op Invitational, Ponte put up a dominating time of 9:29.75 in the 3200m. Not bad for the reigning GPOY. 

-Rio Rancho's Alejandro Casaus (junior): At the AA-LA Co-Op Invitational, Casaus took first in the 1600m, and waltzed through the finish line with a seven-second lead.

MileSplit NM Female Performer of the Week

- Grants Laila Martinez (senior); At the Tiger Invitational, Martinez took first place in the 400m and 800m. She also took second place in the 1600m. Martinez is a making Angry Jack Nation proud.

-Moriarty Carmen Dorsey-Spitz (junior) At the Tiger Invitational, Dorsey-Spitz took first place in the 1600m and the 3200m. CDS is going to be a ton of fun to watch this season.

-Santa Fe Amelia Smith (junior): At the Tiger Invitational, Smith took first place in the long jump and triple jump. Smith has a ton of explosiveness to her name.

-Bloomfield Ryli Heckman (sophomore): At the Farmington Early Bird Invite, Heckman took first in both hurdling events. The underclassman dominated the tri-city track meet. 

-Farmington Avery Sandefer (sophomore): At the Farmington Early Bird Invite, Sandefer took first in the triple jump and the 200m dash sailing to victory ahead a full second of second place. 

-ABQ Academy Grace Erinle (junior): At the AA-LA Co-Op Invitational, Erinle took first in the long jump and the 100m. Not a bad day for the dual-threat talent.
