Runners to your mark

The second week of the New Mexico Outdoor season gives teams an opportunity to choose from a larger selection. Whereas last week there were only five meets within state boundaries, this weekend brings 10 meets, nine of which will take place in the Land of Enchantment.

THURSDAY

The Bulldog Relays took place yesterday down in Artesia. At press time, no results have been received.

FRIDAY

The first of two offerings takes place at the Ralph Bowyer Relays in Carlsbad. Much of southeastern New Mexico should show for this one, making it a competitive affair.

Outside the state in Plainview, Texas, some eastern schools may choose to venture to the Bulldog Relays. Considering the proximity to the other meets offered this weekend, going into Texas may prove closer.

SATURDAY

There are seven meets up and down 1-25, on the western edges of 1-40, and along Highway 550. We'll start from the south and work north.

Las Cruces High School will host the Las Cruces Invitational where many of last week's participants of the Santa Teresa Invite will be found, as well as those teams not attending the meet in Carlsbad.

Heading up 1-25 in Belen is the Jim Burke Invitational. Look for a nice collection of Albuquerque Metro teams, as well as most of Valencia County.

Continuing up 1-25 into the Albuquerque Metro brings a stop at the Cleveland Invitational. With most of the Albuquerque Public Schools, as well as both Rio Rancho high schools, this meet could be the largest and most competitive meet of the weekend. New Mexico Milesplit will provide onsite coverage of this meet.

Just a bit to the east in Bernalillo is the Bernalillo Invitational. Here a nice mixture of 4A-6A schools will come together for a great day of competition.

Heading west along 1-40 brings a stop in Rehoboth for the Rehoboth Invitational. Much of the Gallup-McKinley County School District will be competing as well as a few schools from outside the Gallup area.

North on Highway 550 finds the Jemez Valley Invitational at the Jemez Pueblo. A collection of teams ranging from 1A-4A will be competing on the track.

Continuing north along Highway 550 brings a stop at Hutchinson Stadium for the Piedra Vista Invitational. The Piedra Vista Invite will see an almost identical field as the Farmington Early Bird the previous week. NM Milesplit will provide onsite coverage of this meet.

And there's the busy race schedule for the weekend. Wherever you find yourself in the state, there's a high likelihood a Meet is happening nearby. Get on out and watch some racing!
