And we're back! Let the racing commence!
As noted in the Season Previews, a few southern New Mexico
Schools kicked off the Outdoor season last weekend, but for a majority of the
State, this weekend is the official start to the 2015 Outdoor campaign.
Let's take a look at where this weekend's action will take
place. Going in alphabetical order for the seven meets.
In the Albuquerque Metro, the Albuquerque Academy will host
the Chile Quad. Fingers crossed that
tomorrow's forecast (59 degrees, 10 mph wind) holds, allowing for the quality
fields to showcase their talents.
In Farmington, most of the Four Corners Region will converge
at Hutchinson Stadium for the Farmington
Early Bird. The forecast (54 degrees, 5 mph wind) should allow for
competitive early season marks to be recorded for the 15-team field.
In Grants, many of the schools along the 1-40 Corridor will
hope to take advantage of the temperate forecast (57 degrees, 5-10 mph wind) at
the Grants Invite. With how the
recent weather has been, a forecast like that could produce some solid early
season results.
In Valencia County, the Los Lunas Tigers will be hosting
teams from ranging from Class 3A to Class 6A at the Los Lunas Invite. A mild forecast (62 degrees, 5-10 mph wind)
should see some quality results by the end of the day.
A few schools may cross the western border for the Mustang Classic in Kayenta, Arizona. A
fairly calm forecast (54 degrees, 3-8 mph wind) should help the teams set some
good early spring marks, making the trip well worth it.
In the southern most tip of New Mexico, both southern New
Mexico teams and El Paso teams will compete in the Santa Teresa Invite. A warm forecast (63 degrees, 8-11 mph wind) should
see some excellent results for the competing teams.
For those southern teams not attending the meet in Santa
Teresa, perhaps they will cross the eastern border for the West Teas Relays in Odessa, Texas. West Texas may prove to have the
least favorable forecast (54 degrees, 5-15 mph), but seeing as how it is early
March, any competition is good competition.
Wherever the meet is, dress in layers, mind those uniform
rules, and run fast-turn left. Let's get spiked and psyched, Track is back!
