With the regular season in the rear view mirror, we now are counting down the days until the state reconvenes in Rio Rancho for the Big Dance. Until then, we will pass the time getting to know this season's Senior Class.
As noted before, questionnaires were handed out at the Jamboree, or emailed to those who were not in attendance, and this is what we get. The Top 30 Seniors were determined from the 5K Rankings before the Jamboree, then adjusted after the Jamboree. If a kid was Top 30 before the race, they received a questionnare, if they raced themselves into the 30, then they were emailed a questionnarie after. With that, we continue our series with Ruidoso's sensational senior, Regan Werito.

What are your Goals for the 2014 XC Season? How are the progressing toward them?
My goals for this season are to do the best that I can, and be able to be Distict and State Champion.
What does a typical week of training look like for you? Do you Cross Train?
Mondays are duration runs, Tuesdays and Thursdays are usually hard days, Wednesdays are recovery, and Fridays is pre-meets. This type of week is usually if we have a meet on Saturday. With each hard day I push myself to do the workout the best it could be done. I don’t lift weights or do anything extra out of practice. In practice we do abs and other body fitness stuff. I also rest 3 days out of the week to prevent injury and help my body recover.
Describe your favorite workout and tell why it’s your favorite.
My favorite workout is running hill loops. Doing this workout makes me feel strong and it’s about focus and mind set. Doing this workout makes me feel like I can accomplish anything.
How long have you been running and how did you get started?
I have been running for 2 years, this is my 3rd year. I started running because of my best friend Rocky. We hung out all summer and we didn’t want it to end once school started so he convinced me to run Cross Country. At first it was hard and I didn’t like it, but it also made something come out in me that I loved.
What is your favorite and toughest race so far?
My favorite race is Onate in Las Cruses because it’s a really flat course. My toughest race so far was East Mountain.
Describe your favorite XC memory.
My favorite Cross Country memory is when it was raining outside and we had to run hill loops. When we had to run up the hill we were slipping and sliding from the rain and there was mud all over our legs and we were soaking wet. When we were done we put mud on our faces and took a picture.
Out of all your accomplishments, which one(s) stand out?
One of my biggest accomplishments is proving everyone wrong. Everybody thought I was going to quit and give up, but now I am an All-State runner.
What is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject is science.
When you’re not running, what do you like to do?
When I'm not running I like to hang out with my friends, eat, and watch TV.
How have your Coaches influenced you?
My coaches have showed me that I can do anything that I put my mind to, and that I am more capable than I think I am. Also to keep my knees up.
What are your plans after graduation?
My plans after graduation are to go to college to be a radiologist and maybe further my career in Cross Country.
