New Mexico’s track and field season made a windy and chilly debut on Saturday, as Sue Cleveland High School was once again the site to kick off the season for most of the larger ABQ Metro teams. The meet was a competitive affair with many great performances, most of which were achieved in spite of some very tough weather conditions.
Athletes, coaches, and fans alike were greeted to a crisp March morning, and all were eventually treated to 50 mph wind gusts that turned the track and field complex into our very own polar vortex. While this meet was light on soil-shaking state qualifying performances on the track, it was a great meet to see some very fierce and elite state competitors muscle their way through treacherous conditions and sharpen their racing skills.
