Hello!
My name is Daniel Zuniga, and I am the new sports editor for the MileSplit New Mexico website. As someone who has lived in New Mexico for 24 years, I am so thankful that I get to highlight some of the incredible athletes in our beautiful state.
My journey began when I was an 8th grader, and a fellow student called me fat. After this, I decided to start running, and have run on a regular basis for 16 years. Though I was never the fastest, I still produced some solid times while competing for the Cleveland track & field team, and have competed in a ton of 10ks including the Boulder Boulder.
Running while listening to music is therapy for me, and at times it feels like I am living my wildest dream; I love chasing that feeling.
I graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2019 with a degree in multimedia journalism, and history. After that I worked in an elementary school for close to a decade before beginning my career as a sports writer.
I have worked for publications such as the Rio Rancho Observer, the NM News Port, The League Winners before starting my own sports outlet called, "Couch Potato Sports (CPS)."
Through CPS, I have generated over 20,000 followers/subscribers, and millions of views. I have also interviewed the most New Mexican athletes in the state, and created a platform to celebrate our local talent.
My goal, and focus, has always been three things: to bring the human element, to showcase the wonderful things y'all are doing on the track, and to have fun.
As a New Mexican, I know how much talent we have in this state, and I know how much we are overlooked. New Mexico, let's show the world who we are! I am grateful for this opportunity, and I am grateful for MileSplit for recognizing me and believing in New Mexico.
Besides running, I love the Denver Broncos, playing my ukulele, my two dogs (Oso & Butters), and finding a great slice of pizza.
