The first full weekend of cross country action in New Mexico is complete, and there were some pleasant surprises in store for a few of the teams around the state.

Alamogordo Invitational

There was no reason to run across the border into Texas this weekend. A meet in Alamogordo beckoned all from the southern reaches of New Mexico cross country.

At this point, nobody is running better in the heat than Britani Gonzalez. The name of the game is to run well in the November chill, of course, but there is no mistaking the fact that Gonzalez is off to a very nice start to her season.

Mayfleld's Aaron Thalmann continued his own nice start to the season by holding of NMMI's Juan Estremadoyro, 16:51 to 16:53.
