Back-to-back Titles for Cottonwood Classical Girls Dream Team
For a team that finished with 54 points against the stacked 3A ranks consisting of Zuni, Laguna Acoma, Santa Fe Indian Wingate, and Crownpoint. The Coyotes returned every single girl from that team which in any case would be just about as good as a team could ask for. With circumstances being as they were this year, an All-State performer in Taos' Alyx Mastor would be that key addition from this off-season. Mastor led the way for the Coyotes pulling away from the field finishing in 18:37 followed by Aubrey Lozoya in 3rd, Liza Cardinale in 4th, Sophia Lopez in 5th, and Ellie Merhege in 7th. This squad put on a show for the first state championships event in over a year. Head Coach Shay Todaro couldn't be any more ecstatic for his boys and girls who were able to carry out such a rare feat. St. Michael's Raylee Hunt broke up a total 1-4 sweep of the Coyotes and captured a state runner-up performance. Eighth-grader from Tohatchi, WynterRose Sheka led her squad with an 8th place performance with a time of 21:55. NMMI would be the state runner-up team after landing 46 points while Bosque School would round out the podium with 61 points.
