Octavious Freeman @ Golden Southwest Jason Byrne Jun 8, 2009

She just keeps getting better and better!  Sophomore Octavious Freeman, who we highlighted last week after her double-gold performances at Golden South (including a meet record), was Florida's lone competitor at the Golden Southwest meet out in New Mexico and she came through with another double-gold weekend.   In one of the most competitive races of the entire season, going against many of the very very best high schoolers in the nation, she just made it look easy.  In the 100 meter dash she ran a winning time of 11.20 that was almost half a second faster than Krystal Wynn of Texas (11.69).  It is the second-fastest all conditions time in Florida history, only Chandra Cheeseborough has run faster, but came with a strong tailwind of over 6 so will have that asterik by it.  It is also the #1 all-conditions time in the nation this year.   The 200 meters though was wind legal and she dominated against Brianna Nelson of South Carolina (who later won the 400).  Freeman came through in 23.36 (1.5 Wind) over Nelson's 23.74.  That time gives Freeman the second fastest time in the nation this year (Chalonda Goodman of Georgia has run a 23.32) and ties her with Ericka Whipple as the fourth fastest female in the 200 in Florida history.   Up next for Freeman is Nike Outdoor in two weeks in Greensboro, North Carolina.    Dentarius Locke was expected to compete at Golden Southwest as one of the highlighted competitors, but did not make the trip after being injured at Golden South last week.  Update: Dentarius says he is feeling good and has every indication he will be ready in time for a big showdown at Nike Outdoor.
