Graduation eventually touches everyone the same, but not the same in any given year.
That could very well end up being the story of 2A Boys track and field in New Mexico this spring.
Led by sprinter Wendell Hayes, Lordsburg took home a convincing state title last spring. Hayes is back, but other key pieces like Joseph Jackson and Kenny Evans must be replaced if Lordsburg is to repeat their state title from 2012.
One team that doesn't have a lot of refilling of the roster to do is last year's state runner-up, Texico. Quite the contrary, the Fighting Wolverines are loaded coming into 2013 and figure to be giving the rest of the classification's schools fits this spring. With a roster deep in top-end talent like Adrian Gomez, Colton Hollis, and Shay Harrison, and with a solid supporting cast to fill out relays and bring in points in smaller, but still consequential, amounts in individual events, it's tough to escape the conclusion that this is the team to beat.
Eunice, Estancia, and Laguna-Acoma are in the best position to chase.
In one small correction to the team scoring analysis of returning athletes shown below, I believe Roy Madrid (NMMI) is now with 3A Taos.
