Weekend Recap: Top Performances Across the State

Between the ABQ Metro Championships, the Pecos Valley Invite, and the John Grimley Invite, runners threw down some solid performances and set the tone for a competitive second half of the season across the state.

Eldorado High School Girls Post Perfect Score at ABQ Metro Champs

In the girls metro champs race, Eldorado High School took the top team spot handily, placing five runners in the top five for a team score of 15 points, 77 points ahead of second-place La Cueva high school.

Gianna Rahmer and Isla Rahmer took first and second place respectively, followed by teammates Ava Denton, Helene Gessner, and Olivia Rule in a fairly tight pack. The young team consists of majority underclassman plus Isla Rahmer, currently in 8th grade. The lady Golden Eagles are certainly a team to watch as we head into the final weeks of the season.

Clovis Sweeps Pecos Valley Invite

The Clovis High Schools boys' and girls' teams won the Pecos Valley Invitational at Enchanted Hills Park this past weekend. The girls team of Roselia Morales, Brooke Newcomer, and Arianna Olivas-Hita took 1st - 3rd respectively. The boys' team took 7 of the top 15 spots to lock in the win as well, with juniors Adrian Surita and Marques Lippman leading the Wildcats' group in 2nd and 3rd place overall.

Santa Fe High School Defends at John Grimley Invitational

At the Santa Fe Indian School XC course, Santa Fe High School athletes took first place in the boys' and girls' races. On the boys' side, Christopher Severy placed first with a time of 16:42.99, while freshman Andi Severy took the top spot in the girls' race with a 19:56.67 followed by sophomore teammate Telullah Righter.

With the season entering its final stretch, these performances show that New Mexico’s cross-country scene is heating up. With several teams and runners making their mark, the weeks ahead should bring plenty of exciting competition.
