Great Southwest: On-Site Coverage

Gunner Nixon of Oklahoma competes in the 110 Hurdles in the Decathlon.  Nixon set the National High School Record, beating Curtis Beach's record set two years ago at this meet. His High Jump of 7-00.75 is a US#2, which scored him well with 900 points.  Also his long jump of 24-5.5 is among the top twenty in the nation.  Nixon set the US Decathlon Record becoming the first athlete to break 8000 points with 8035 points.

 

 

KU Bound, Lindsay Vollmer wins the heptatlon with a US#1 5185.    Karli Johonnot of Nevada finishes second also with a score over 5000, finishing with a total of 5074.  She set the All-Time Hep 800m at the Great Southwest Classic with a time of 2:15.87.

 

 Saturday

The racing on Saturday has just begun and meet records are falling. The Missouri girls won the 4x200 in a new meet record time of 135.39 while the Texas boys set a record for the boys in a time of 123.78

Colorado freshman Dior Hall blasts through the 100 meter hurdles in 13:18 a US#3 and all time freshman record.

Missouri state champion Samantha Levin feel just short of  a meet record set at much closer to sea level but held on to win the girls 800 meters.

 

 

Reese Watkins of Texas set a new GSW record in the pole vault with a vault of 17-3.

 

Trey Armstrong blazed a 20.89 to capture the elite boys 200m dash.

 

The 4x400 Girls team from Missouri of Montene Roye, Kendra White, Samamtha Levin (all LSU bound) and Asia Thomas shattered the previous meet record of 3:41 by running 3:37.65
