Each week, we'll highlight New Mexico's Future Stars, not just to showcase the wide range of upcoming talent but also to recognize the current young talent who are topping leaderboards.
This week, we are highlighting a group of underclassmen making waves throughout New Mexico.
Has just taken off almost half a minute from his previous P.R in the 400m dash. A sophomore from Truth or Consequences, NM, Koaher has become the class of 2028's most improved 400m runner this season. He has also competed in the pole vault and javelin, two events in which he has also secured a new P.R as we inch towards the end of the outdoor regular season.
Rio Rancho always has quality distance runners, and King is a clear reflection of their effective training program. From last season to now, the Rio Rancho sophomore has cut over 2:30 minutes from his time in the 3200m run. He currently holds a P.R of 10:32.12 in the event and also has a sub-5-minute mile performance to his name.
Remember this name for the postseason, and most definitely for next season. Fashola currently leads the class of 2028 in both the 100m and 200m dashes. She's a top-tier sprinter who, as an underclassman, has posted times worthy of a Top 10 ranking statewide regardless of class. She has the third fastest time registered in the state for the 200m this season.
A high jump specialist for ABQ Academy. Brown leads the class of 2028 in the high jump, and her recent P.R of 5-04.00 puts her in a better spot than she was last year during her participation in the state championships. She's been consistently jumping over five feet this season, and based on her performance from last year's state meet, is set for a top-three state finish should all go as planned.
