With voting for the MileSplit New Mexico Performer of the Week (3/2-3/8) now closed, it's time to announce the winners.
MileSplit NM Female Performer of the Week (3/2-3/8)
Grants Laila Martinez (senior); At the Tiger Invitational, Martinez took first place in the 400m and 800m. She also took second place in the 1600m. In 2025, Martinez was the state champion in the 800m, and the runner-up in the 1600m.
MileSplit NM Male Performer of the Week (3/2-3/8)
Centennial thrower Luke Matherly (senior)- At the Mike Castillo Track Meet, Matherly took first in both the discus and shot put. He threw a 47 foot, nine inch shot put, and a 168-foot sling in the discus. Matherly is the reigning champion in the discus, and is committed to throw and play football at South Dakota Mines.
REMINDER: each week MileSplit NM, will choose four-to-six candidates for our "Performer of the Week" segment. The candidates will then enter a two-day voting period, and the candidate to garner the most votes, wins the honor. Only New Mexico prep athletes are considered, and candidates are chosen based on their performance from that respective week.
