NMAA 4A: GIRLS 5K RUN - STATE FINALS
Los Alamos Reclaims 4A Girls Cross Country Title Behind Stellar Pack; Moriarty's Dorsey-Spitz Shatters Field for Individual Win
In a race that mixed individual brilliance with textbook team running, Los Alamos High School surged back to the top of Class 4A cross country, capturing the state championship with a decisive 29-point performance. Meanwhile, Moriarty's Carmen Dorsey-Spitz delivered one of the most dominant individual showings in meet history, blazing to victory in 16:57.9 - nearly a minute and a half ahead of the next finisher.
Dorsey-Spitz, a senior, broke the field early and never looked back, powering through the course in a time rarely seen at the 4A level. Behind her, Albuquerque Academy's senior duo Anna Hastings (18:19.0) and Addison Julian (18:39.0) gave the Chargers an early boost, but Los Alamos' depth overwhelmed the field.
The Hilltoppers - known for their pack-running tradition - placed five runners in the top 15 to lock down their 2025 title. Junior Ensley Jorgenson led the way in fourth (18:47.6), followed by freshman phenom Elisabeth McNiff (6th, 19:08.2), junior Grace Montoya (7th, 19:17.1), senior Mila Moseley (8th, 19:23.1), and sophomore Emmeline Keller-Moore (13th, 20:06.7). Albuquerque Academy finished second with 75 points, fueled by Hastings, Julian, and junior Delaney Wagner (21st, 21:01.1). Miyamura High School claimed third (100 points) behind a steady lineup led by Shelby Haskie (20:06.0) and Kylie Montano (20:39.4).
Other standout individual finishes included Jazelle Thompson of Shiprock (9th, 19:28.1) and Neveah Cachora of EspaƱola Valley (10th, 19:41.4), both earning top-10 medals.
