NMAA A-2A: BOYS 5K RUN - STATE FINALS

Pedro Powers Laguna-Acoma, But Pecos Takes the Team Crown

In a thrilling finish that capped off the state cross-country finals, Tagoya Pedro of Laguna-Acoma High School surged to victory in the Boys 5K, clocking an impressive 15:35.20 to secure the individual title. Pedro broke away from the field and held his ground against runner-up Brandyn Encinias of Pecos High School (16:00.20) and Brayden King of Menaul (16:00.30).

Despite Pedro's individual success, the team championship belonged to Pecos High School, whose tight pack-running proved decisive. The Panthers placed five runners in the top 20, led by Encinias, Carlos Ragland (6th, 16:23.20), Thomas Garcia (9th), Rylan Ortega (15th), and Elias Chavez (18th) to total 46 points and repeat as one of the state's most dominant small-school programs.

Oak Grove Classical Academy followed close behind with 69 points supported by two top-five finishes from Joshua Marquez (4th) and Malakai Goldie (5th). Laguna-Acoma finished third with 100 points, led by Pedro and teammate Carter Patricio (8th).
