He's just a freshman, but my oh my has Friedrich already started making an impact on the New Mexico rankings.
At the Macen Holden Cleveland Invite, the freshman clocked a 16:03.30 on the 5K course, good enough for 10th place. This marked his season opener, and laid the ground work for the rest of the 2025 season. His performance was good enough to land him a spot amongst the Top 10 times in New Mexico this season.
Even though this is Friedrich's first high school season, he does have experience competing against the 9th-12th grade class members. Last cross country season, Diego Friedrich partook in the NXR South West regional meet, running a near sub-17 minute 5K in the championship section of the meet. Most recently, he clocked a sub 10-minute 3200m at the NMAA 4A State Track and Field Championships during the spring. Again, all this was done as an 8th grader, which makes us wonder, what other surprises does he have in store for us?
Keep an eye out for Diego Friedrich as he undergoes his first high school season.
