Cleveland Invite to Kick off the XC Season

Cleveland Invite

Cleveland HS XC Course Rio Rancho, NM
Aug 27, 2022

2022 looks to be another good meet hosted by Cleveland to end the month of August and start the first weekend of cross country in the state of New Mexico. All the metro area schools will be in attendance along with some nearby teams from Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Pojoaque Valley, Ramah, and Moriarty. Also making the trek from out of state includes El Paso Coronado and a pair of Colorado teams with Durango and Ignacio. Durango girls' squad will look to be a great challenge early on as they bring in five girls that have gone under 20:00 minutes for the 5K. We will see Senior Leah Futey attempt to once again win her home meet as she will see a challenge from  Volcano Vista's Carysa Marquez, Albuquerque's Daniela Figueroa, and Durango's Willow Lott. On the boys' side, it will be the Storm seeking to defend their home course against rival Rio Rancho who brings in the #1 ranked boys team going into this season led by Mason Steel and Skyler Galbraith. Of course in that individual race, it will be a show between Hope Christian's Rendon Kuykendall, Sandia's Steven West, and El Paso Cornado's Luis Pastor as they come into this meet with the best times and accolades.

This race will answer a few lingering questions we may have about how this season may unfold. New faces will emerge as contenders and some schools may find themselves searching to replace standouts who have since graduated. The Cleveland Invite will be a packed atmosphere to set the tone for the fall to come! in New Mexico!
