New Mexico Cross Country Countdown Series

After years so close but not quite there, the Volcano Vista Hawks are now defending champions of 5A. The Hawks put in an effort that was masterful with the inclusion of the boys' team also securing their first state title. Now just like the boys' team, this Hawks squad will have to emerge with new motivations to add more hardware and bring back a solid five to achieve that goal. Carysa Marquez returns now a sophomore to lead the Hawks coming off a 6th place finish. Also back are Marisa Sena (12th in 2021), Mariana Marquez (13th in 2021), Liliana Sanchez (20th in 2021), and Cyara Coriz (29th in 2021). At the moment they bring back the best team in 5A as this team is a team that could potentially see three Hawks earning All-State performances which would put them well ahead of the pack. They also can expect newcomers to the varsity squad like Anastasia Kubiak and Marissa Salcedo who would make them even more competitive than they already are. We truly can't express how challenging this district 1-5A is as Volcano Vista takes on Sue Cleveland and Rio Rancho for what is always an interesting matchup. The Hawks have the advantage at the moment as they return a standout runner in Carysa Marquez and a scoring five that can duplicate last season's results that put them well ahead of any other school.
