The #9 ranked Pojoaque Valley seeks to have a huge bounce-back season after coming up with an 11th place finish in 2021. Last season, the Elkettes came in as an unknown factor, they were far removed from their state title day of the early 2000s and have been searching for the right moment ever since. They may have arrived at the long coveted season where they can take on the higher-ups of class 4A for a chance at once again landing on the podium. Elizabeth Towles leads Pojoaque Valley as the 33rd place finisher in 2021 and is one of several upperclassmen for this varsity unit. Also back are Marisa Martinez (37th in 2021), Araya Vigil (60th in 2021), Arissa Herrod (54th in 2021), Lauren Salazar (48th in 2021), Karen Chiquito (74th in 2021), and Maliana Bowie (82nd in 2021). They will see early on how they fare against Los Alamos in district 2-4A prior to the big showdown at the state meet this November. If they can seize this opportunity for experience and growth while other schools search for new additions to fill out their roster, the Elkettes may see the largest improvement from an 11th-place finish to a potential podium spot in 2022.
