La Cueva's Christian Buzzard finishing a stride behind Luke Wysong ( Photo by Jaren Brooks)

Christian Buzzard finds himself as a strong candidate to take over the helm for sprint phenom Luke Wysong to enter 2022. Buzzard the runner-up 100m sprinter holds a 10.82 personal best and leads a trio of Javyn Morales and Derrik Johnson as the only sub-11-second sprinters heading into the season. This 5A dominated event only finds smaller class representation with Dexter's Juan Fuentes who is the 3A state runner-up from 2021 in a time of 11.14.
