If you had been on the outside looking in heading into the 2021 5A State Track and Field Championship, Gabriel Ball probably wouldn't have been on the radar as the guy to jump the highest mark since the 2018 season. Ball who had finished 6th in 2019 with at the time personal best of 6'0" had shown signs of improvement all season long. He would go on to be undefeated in regular-season meets and clearing 6'6". Gabriel showed he had plenty of hops left in him to exceed his past efforts as it was clear he was victorious after surpassing the mark at 6'4" but guided by an energetic crowd on a beautiful Saturday morning, he started to hit a rhythm to surpass a height of 6'9" as roars could be heard across the stadium.
