Adriana Tatum is Gatorade NM Girls Athlete of the Year

The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field, distinguishes Tatum as New Mexico's best high school girls track & field athlete. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Athlete of the Year award to be announced in June, Tatum joins an elite alumni association of state award-winners in 12 sports, including Lolo Jones (1997- 98, Roosevelt High School, Iowa), Allyson Felix (2002-03, Los Angeles Baptist High School, Calif.), Robert Griffin III (2006-07, Copperas Cove High School, Texas), Grant Fisher (2013-14 & 2014-15, Grand Blanc High School, Mich.) and Candace Hill (2014-15, Rockdale County High School, Ga.). - Gatorade Player of Year Press Release


Adriana Tatum, coming off a stellar 2019 season that including a pair of individual state titles in the 100m and 200m as well as playing a part in the Matadors 5A title 4x100m and 4x200m relays. This is the second time Tatum has won the award and joins the likes of Haley Rizek (2017-18 & 2016-17, St. Pius X Catholic High School), Jennifer Ramirez (2015-16, Onate High School), Natasha Bernal (2014-15, La Cueva High School), and Lauren Martinez (2013-14, Eldorado High School as multiple winners. 

A standout on the track as well as the classroom, Tatum has maintained a 4.2 GPA as she enters her senior year this fall. Tatum also stays active in the community with her efforts as volunteer youth coach as well helping the Special Olympics
