2020 New Mexico State Track and Field Championship Envisioned

Sandia Prep was building up a quality sqaud in 2020 that unfortunately wasn't seen in 2020. Socorro's pair of sprinters Fresquez Nathaniel and Andrew Garcia would be favorites to contend in the 100m and 200m. Cottonwood Classical's Alex Ortiz a favorite in the 800m being the only sub 2:00 performer also has speed that could have easily contended in the 400m as well. The distance events see plenty of strong talent that would have returned from 2019 including 3200m state champion Christopher Humetewa of Santa Fe Indian who also was runner up in the 1600m. Looking to challenge would be Justin Howey and Deshawn Goodwin who finished just behind Humetewa in both events. In the hurdles it could have been anyone's race with Randel Veglio having ran the fastest mark of 17.59. Donovan Roberts was the 300m hurdles runner up a year ago and was in good standing to claim victory in 2020. In the throws, Tularosa finds themselves with plenty of talent as Isaac Sanchez returning to compete in all three throws that he finished within the top four on the podium. Sandia Prep's Josh Bennett favored in the long and triple jump as he finished 5th in both events in 2019. Meanwhile comfortable in their positions as top returners would have been that of Derek Garay in the high jump with his mark of 5'10" and Mark Mcguire of Hot Springs in the pole vault who finished 2nd last year with a personal best vault of 11-0.
