Cottonwood Classical overcomes Zuni and Laguna Acoma in 3A
Cottonwood Classical was a district champion and a team to watch but the ability to rally a convincing win over some powerhouses in Zuni and Laguna Acoma is quite a feat. A trio of Sophia Lopez, Aubrey Lozoya and Liza Cardinale with all-state finishes powered them to victory. I think the underestimated value of Cottonwood Classical's runners 4-7 ability to pack together allowed for upsets of schools with a multitude of championships in their history. Zuni took home runner-up honors while Laguna Acoma finished in 3rd place to round out the podium.
Individually, Wingate's Jewels Leslie led from start to finish with about a 20 meter lead for the majority of the race finishing with a 19:34. Laguna Acoma's Sidney Cheromiah along with Leslie was the only girl to break 20:00 in class 1/2A on her way to runner-up finish to go along with her 3rd place team.

Zuni dominates 3A on way to yet another state title
There was not a more dominating performance than that of Zuni's in the boys 3A Championship. The Thunderbird's would land six runners in the top 10 en route to a 23 point victory. Led by individual state champion Deshawn Goodwin who let out a phenomenal roar crossing the finish line. Santa Fe Indian School finished in 2nd while Laguna Acoma rounded out the podium in 3rd.
