Eldorado favorite to repeat in 5A girls in 2019
The defending state champion Eagles have been a dominant force in 5A all season long. Led by defending individual champion Jasmine-Turtle-Morales the team most likely to contend is Sue Cleveland who have an equally talented runner in Leah Futey. Turtle-Morales and Futey have been going head-to-head all season trading off 1st place. A team that may surprise is Volcano Vista who has done well this season behind top runner Isabella Schrader. Also on the heels of a podium finish include Rio Rancho and La Cueva. Individually, other than the aforementioned runners, Emily Schoellkopf, Lila Nezar, Brylnn Esplin, Jessica Rios, Leah Varela, Laurynn Sisneros, and Faith Lovato will be in the mix for top 10 finishers.

Onate is looking to put a halt to Cleveland's dynasty
Sue Cleveland has been the premier program in 5A since its inaugural season in 2011. They are the favorites to repeat although Onate may play spoilers this weekend. The Knights has the tightest average split of their top 5 runners than any other team in the field, nearly 20 seconds faster than the Storm. The advantage Cleveland has over Onate is the familiarity of the course which they have prevailed on in the past. Teams also looking for a podium finish include Volcano Vista, Rio Rancho and Piedra Vista. Individually, a new champion will be crowned this weekend and the favorite is La Cueva's Stevie Salas. The 3rd place finisher from a year ago is primed for his spot at the top after a low key start to the season, capping off with a Metro Championship and district title to his name thus far. Other names to watch out for include Nick Yacone, Triston Charles, Celso Garcia, Lucas Loe, Lucas Futey, Nicholas Ortiz, Dawson Gunn, Adrian Villarreal, and Tyler Nord.
