CARIFTA Games: Briana Williams Snags Three U17 Golds

Oakland Park Northeast (FL) High sophomore Briana Williams won her first gold medal at the CARIFTA Games on Friday, winning the 100m in a wind-legal 11.27 seconds (+1.6).

While it wasn't a time Williams envisioned --  she said in her post-race interview that she would have liked to go faster -- that piece of hardware cemented her place history in one of the Caribbean's prized youth championships.

The winning time also marked Williams' second fastest wind-legal 100m time of her career. She also won her preliminary heat in 11.51 seconds.

The high school sophomore will look to double her gold medal count in the 200m dash on Monday.

Update

Williams added to her haul on Monday, snagging another title in the 200m in a wind-legal time of 23.11 (+1.1) seconds, an effort that would put her US No. 2 on the spring season.

She also contributed to Team Jamaica's win in the 4x100 on Sunday. The squad ran 44.95 seconds.
