Thirteen Colorado schools got a little taste of New Mexico cross country at Fountain Creek Regional Park on Friday.
The Los Alamos Hilltoppers came north to wage a little offensive and left with two meet titles. TCA made it very close on the boys side, while Salida made it close on the girls side, but the Hilltoppers were not to be turned aside.
In both cases, it was scoring depth, and not the presence of any single dominant runner, that carried the day for Los Alamos.
The boys race quickly reduced to a battle between Salida's Taylor Stack and TCA's Tanner Norman. Stack went to the lead very early in the race and never really looked back. Norman stayed close through two miles but could never close the gap on the Salida senior.
